Quick Seal

Quick Seal (LCM)

It is a high-temperature softening and coarsely ground modified hydrocarbon for the purpose of loss-of-circulation material that is specially designed to soften and loosen at high temperatures. In oil-based mud systems, these devices are used as a part of the process. The material is another kind of water-insoluble, ultra-fine, complexed cellulose that can be used to manage seepage and loss of circulation when drilling through zones that have been consumed or under-pressured and are water-insoluble. In India, we are a leading manufacturer and exporter of lost circulation materials (Quick Seal) that are used in various applications.

A variety of cellulosic fibrous materials varying in size, shape, and hardness make up QUICKSEAL (similar to KWIQSEAL/KWIKSEAL). The Quickseal product line is available in three grades – Fine (F), Medium (M) and Coarse (C).

Application
The varying particle sizes and shapes of Quickseal make it an ideal lost circulation material when it comes to fractures, vugs, or extremely porous areas.

Recommeded Treatment
It has been found that 30-40 ppb of Quickseal is very effective in loss zones when added directly to the mud and spotted opposite the loss zone (if possible, through an open-ended drill pipe). It should be sufficient for most conditions to utilize Quickseal as a preventive measure at 5-8 ppb.

Description

Description :- Quick Seal

Added to oil well drilling fluids, this mixture consists of a mixture of vegetable fibers, synthetic fibers, cellophane flakes, and granulated nut shells.

A granular, flake, and fibrous blend of materials makes up Kwik-Seal additive, designed to stop lost circulation in water-based drilling fluids in a wide range of conditions. Kwik-Seal additive is available in three grinds to address the widest range of lost circulation conditions:

For large fractures and highly corrosive materials, coarse grind is used

Pumpable formations with good permeability

A large jet or an open pipe can be used.

For sealing medium-to-fine fractures and porous zones, medium grind can be used with most cements

Jet bits.

Seepage losses can be a problem with fine grinds,

For example, fine fractures or porous formations. An excellent quality

A course-mesh shaker can be used to circulate the grind

The mud can be used as a filler to maintain screens

Material lost during circulation

Quickseal is lost- circulation material is an all purpose additive designed to reduce severe lost circulation as well as minor seepage losses.

Applications:

  • The varying particle sizes and shapes of quickseal make it an ideal lost circulation material when it comes to fractures, vugs, or extremely porous areas.
  • Quick seal lost circulation material has applications in both water-base and oil-base muds.

Advantages :

  • Effective and economical lost circulation material blend.
  • Chemically does not effect mud chemistry.
  • One-sack blend does not affect mud chemistry.
  • Quick seal material to plug porous sands and carbonate sections, as well as fractured and vugular zones.

Packaging and storage :

  • Quick seal lost circulation material is packaged in 50lb PP liner bag
  • Store in a dry location away from sources of heat or ignition and minimizes dust.

Typical Physical Properties :

Physical appearance :               Blend of flake, fibrous and granular particle

Limitations :

  • As with most LCM Quick seal material will be removed by the shale shaker. To prevent Quick seal material from being discarded, shakers must be bypassed or unusually large screens must be used.
  • Quick seal material has the potential to biodegrade once added to the mud system. Consequently, its recommended to add a biocide to the mud system when MI seal material is being used.

Toxicity and handling :

  • MSDS is available upon request.
  • Handle as an industrial chemical, wearing protective equipment and observing the precautions as described in the material safety data sheet(MSDS).

Treatment recommendations

For very large fractures, QWIK-SEAL (coarse) is recommended. It  should  be  used  with  an open-ended drill pipe or an open-water course bit opposite the loss zone. There is usually no need to use more than 30 to 40 parts per billion (85 to 114 kg/m3) of product in a slug.

A medium-sized QWIK-SEAL seals fractures and porous areas. The concentration should be between 10 and 15 ppb (26 to 43 kg/m3) when using jet bits.

Sealing porous formations and fine fractures with QWIK-SEAL (fine) is recommended as a preventive measure. There is a recommendation for a concentration between 3 and 6 ppb (8.5 to 17 kg/m3). The plug won’t get stuck
